Gay Love Spells by Casey Giovinco

I love Casey Giovinco’s new book, Gay Love Spells! It is also dedicated to one of our deceased gay Witch elders, Tarostar V* (Rod).

The size and shape of the booklet reminds me of Tarostar and Charmaine’s spellbooks as it is in the classic occult shop format that were all the rage from the 1970s through the early 2000s so it’s giving me serious nostalgia!

Gay Love Spells has been desperately needed as there has not been many really good spellbooks written specifically for a gay audience with additional advice for the greater Rainbow communities. (Though the main focus of the book is for gay men)

I think Tarostar would have certainly been proud of Casey for this booklet as it pulls no punches, is direct and right to the point.

Starting right at the introduction of the booklet, we get some hard hitting philosophy that almost never is discussed in most spellbooks.

Even if you are not interested in casting a Gay Love Spell, the first chapter of “Magical Timing” is worth the price to the book for casting any type of spell.

Casey goes then into specific advice that the normal bouts of love spell books do not cover – such as why the standard “just alter the love spells for straight couples” does not fully match easily into a gay male relationship.

The spells in the book are absolutely well-written and based on classical techniques of spellmaking. He has spells for all aspects of gay love life!

One thing Casey ends with is a challenge to us all: For decades queer people have been told, “You don’t need extra spells or instructions for gay people; just figure out how to switch and swap the straight parts into gay parts. That’s not so hard is it?”

Casey challenges all of us; especially for our supportive allies at the end, to read this book and then try to substitute the spells into straight parts and see what it has been like for gay people for multiple generations who have been told that. Gay relationships and straight relationships are not 100% interchangeable by just swapping out the genders, and it is a privilege to not know or understand that. If you accept this challenge and try this out, you may come out with a new perspective.
